The Year of 21

Happy Birthday to me!

Today is the day I wave goodbye to 21 and hello to 22 (crikey, I'm basically in my mid-twenties). This post is a reflective one, a hell of a lot happened my year as a 21-year-old, but here are my favourites from the year.

My 21st Surprise trip
Technically I was still 20 when I went on this trip, but as it was for my Birthday, I'm still sneaking it in there! My Mum took me to a beautiful Titanic-themed hotel in the centre of Liverpool where we had an amazing afternoon tea and a beautiful day wandering around the city.

Finishing University
I'll never forget how happy I was the day I handed in my dissertation. It had taken an incredible amount of work and I felt so proud to hold the final product in my hand. Plus, I'll always remember the day our last work was submitted and me and my housemates decided to celebrate by building a den in the lounge, you know, as we were now adults.

S Club 7
In may I went to see S Club 7 at the O2 arena. I was a little apprehensive that this could completely destroy my childhood memories if they weren't like I remembered. However, I needn't have worried because they were amazing! The whole concert became like a disco you went to when you were younger. My only regret was that there wasn't more room to dance!

Travelling around Europe
The biggest highlight of the year for me, if not my life! I had the most amazing time and met the greatest people. It's crazy how much you can learn and change as a person in three weeks. it definitely opened my eyes and made me realise how much is out there.

Being a bridesmaid
I was chuffed when my cousin asked me to be a bridesmaid at her wedding, although I was a little apprehensive as I had never even been to one before. It was a beautiful outdoor summer wedding, and the day was spent drinking, dancing and getting way too excited about the space hopper race.

Visiting America and Canada
Going on a trip like this was something I had never done with my family before, but I loved every second. From spending the day sunbathing in central park to being sprayed with the powerful water coming off of Niagara Falls, the whole trip was amazing.

After what felt like forever, in November finally came graduation day. The weather was pretty terrible, meaning the day didn't go quite to plan, however, I had an absolutely amazing time and it was great to feel proud of something I worked so hard for.

During my Graduation week, I headed to Brighton for a couple of days. It was my first time away on my own, but I loved exploring the city, sitting on the beach and walking the lanes. I definitely hope to go back in summer.

Working Full Time
Kind of an unusual one here, but the time I spent working full-time in the coffee shop near to me meant a lot. I had worked there since I was 16 part-time, however with the rush to Christmas and the place being newly refurbished, I was employed full time. My confidence soared in the space of three months, and while I originally would rather have stayed in the back, I began chatting with customers more, coming up with ideas as to how things could be improved and helped to organise different Christmas events.

My week away to Shropshire
A few weeks ago, my family and I headed to Shropshire for the week. It was a great escape and brilliant to spend time in the countryside with each other. We had a hot tub in the cottage, and I definitely had no complaints about that, a relaxing trip all round.

Overall it's been a fantastic year! I've had some pretty rough low points but looking back on all the amazing things I've done definitely brings a smile and to my face. My main goal for my year as a 22-year-old will be long-term happiness. I know you can't be happy all the time, but extreme highs and lows really aren't good for you!
