Oscars 2014

I, like many people around the UK waited eagerly around their computer screens to see the awards handed out between 1 and 5am last night. For quite a few years now, I have enjoyed hearing the speeches, being in awe of the dresses and appreciating a man in a tux... who doesn't? I was so pleased when I found out the Ellen DeGeneres was hosting this year as I have watched her show for such a long time and find her ridiculously hilarious. I hadn't actually planned on staying up but once the first award was handed out I knew I was hooked.

Although the evening is full of formalities there is something so relaxed about it. Take 'the selfie' for example, it's certainly something you don't see everyday, or perhaps Pharrell Williams and Meryl Streep getting their groove on. It made sound incredibly dramatic but it is about making history. Plus, of course the films, I mean the films nominated this year were absolutely breath taking.

I know at times, the Oscars get some criticism for there conglomerate facade but when you focus on the actors, producers, designers and directors you realise that taking one of those golden fellas home is an incredible achievement that very few are able to do.

I guess I’m trying to celebrate the amazing talent the world has to offer when it comes to film. Films that make you laugh, cry and absorbed all at the same time truly deserve recognition. I can't wait to see what a next year of films will bring.

  1. I loved the Oscars this year! Personally I didn't enjoy Gravity as much as others did and preferred The Wolf of Wall Street. And I think the whole world was a bit sad that Leonardo Dicaprio didn't get an oscar. I loved Kate Hudson's and Cate Blanchett's dresses too!! Lovely post xx
